About Bird's Nest
As the name suggests, 'bird's nest' is a nest built by swiftlets by mixing their saliva with other minerals.
In South-east Asia, there can be found 2 genres of bird's nest—cave bird's nest and house bird's nest. The former is obtained from caves. Cave bird's nest appears in different colors, e.g. white, red and yellow, due to different mineral contents in different caves. It is pure bird's nest at its most pristine form.

House bird's nest, ordinarily ivory white in color, is harvested from buildings, the artificial habitats of swiftlets. This harvest method must not be confused with farming, since houses are built to provide swiftlets with a cozier and more suitable habitat for them to live and reproduce.
There are some differences between cave and house bird's nest. Whereas the nutritional value of cave bird's nest varies in accordance with the mineral content of the cave, house bird's nest contains primarily unique swiftlet saliva (sialic acid) and abundant essential proteins.
Scientific studies have shown that house bird's nest is safer to consume than cave bird's nest, for the main reason that artificial houses are more sanitary. In general, there are less impurities in house bird's nest. House bird's nest, produced in a controlled environment, is evidently safer and more suitable for human consumption.
